FREE LIVE MUSIC THIS WEEKEND!

How’s that for a headline! Did I get your attention?

Every Saturday night at Streets at Southpoint, you can sit outside and enjoy some fantastic free live entertainment. As far as I’m concerned, it’s one heck of a great way to spend an evening in Durham or ANYWHERE in the triangle for that matter. Grab your friends, some snacks and a comfy chair and you have the makings of a memorable weekend!

This weekend, THE DUDES roll into town all the way from Alberta, Canada!

Sort of a soul-billy/rock-abilly/some-other-kinda-billy band, they’re known for having a wildly popular following, high energy shows and plenty of good ‘ol rock! NOT a band you can stay seated for!  But don’t get me wrong, this isn’t some hard-edged metal group. Their music is really catchy and easy to listen to and I even downloaded a couple of their songs after writing this post and learning about them!

This is one of their more popular songs…

S0- grab your favorite lounge chair and some family and friends and head over to The Streets at Southpoint and check out the Music on Main Free Concert Series!

Performers entertain the crowd with light jazz, beach music and adult contemporary music in a family-friendly atmosphere so relax and enjoy listening. Follow your favorite performers on our Cinema Circle stage just outside Southpoint Cinema.

So, come on out this Saturday and every Saturday through October and join the Streets at Southpoint from 6pm-9pm for some seriously good live music! Bring your family, bring a friend, or just bring yourself for a relaxing evening of good music and good times!
Hope to see you there this Saturday!

WHY NOT MAKE A DAY OF IT?

Whether with the whole family, a few friends, or a date, The Streets at Southpoint offers some great dining options, like Rockfish Seafood Grill! Grab some dinner outside on the patio while enjoying the live music or stay inside and enjoy the friendly atmosphere, either way you’ll be glad you did!

Rockfish is a casual, neighborhood restaurant that features great seafood, super friendly service, and a full bar that proudly features local microbrews! I spent the evening out there last Saturday and let me tell you, Rockfish is seriously good with very reasonable prices, the most expensive item on the whole menu is just $21.99 !   From the moment you walk in you feel as though you’ve just stepped foot on an antique Chris-Craft Boat,  and it’s pretty cool, they even have seats from old boats!

We started off with the infamous ROCKFISH TOWER!
Four layers of sushi style greatness!  Jumbo Lump Crab, sashimi Ahi Tuna, Avocado and sashimi Salmon stacked super high and drizzled with wasabi aioli.  Get this: they serve it with crispy wonton chips…and it’s perfectly delicious!
$11.99

If you love crab cakes, then you must try the Crab Cake Appetizer.
Two jumbo lump crab cakes served with homemade remoulade and cocktail sauces.
$11.99

After filling up on appetizers, it was time for the main course!  I chose one of the Rockfish favorites, Cajun Pasta!
Generous portions of shrimp, chicken, smoked Andouille sausage (though, I opted for no sausage and that was not a problem at all), onions, red bell peppers and penne pasta all tossed in a homemade Cajun Cream Sauce!

This pasta was unlike anything I’ve ever had before, you must try!!!
$10.99

Even though Rockfish is a seafood restaurant, they aren’t strictly fish – you can enjoy a burger or a steak if you’d like and Rockfish is perfect for families with a very kid-friendly menu that features items like Mac-n-Cheese and Chicken Tenders, so definitely bring the kids, besides, they’ll love the boat decor!

Rockfish Seafood Grill puts a huge emphasis on supporting the local community whether it be hosting events to raise money for charity, keeping local brews on tap, or even setting up a game of cornhole on any given evening to spark some fun, Rockfish is constantly trying to do more than just make delicious food!  Customers are their number one priority and it shows.

MUSIC ON MAIN FREE CONCERT SERIES!

Check out some of the photos from April!

Spend your Saturday evenings at The Streets at Southpoint listening to live music outside!

This Saturday, May 5th is Cinco de Mayo and I can’t think of any better way to spend it than outside enjoying the country rockin’ sounds of Cimmaron.

Cimmaron has entertained and offered listeners country music with an edge doing it their way, with a combination of kickin’ traditional, Outlaw rockin’ country music that reflects the varied backgrounds of the band members. Cimmaron has performed nationally at Venues as broad as Boulder Station Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada to Disney Worlds Armadillos Saloon in Florida.

While the band is always busy performing at State Fairs and Festivals across the country, they always make time to continue to fine tune their distinct sound by appearing in hundreds of Night Clubs and Honky Tonks from Coast to Coast. The Band has deep-set roots in these smoke filled clubs and thrives on the response of a rowdy, excited live audience large or small.

Cimmaron has appeared on national television shows such as TNN’s Music City Tonight, Prime Time Country, Miller & Company, Video PM, and Video AM. Their videos played on TNN & CMT and won the Golden Music Award in 1995 for Video of the Year and Band of theYear. Cimmaron is a favorite of nationally recognized music critic, Robert K. Ormann, and were guests on his syndicated radio show on WSM.

The band recorded their first CD, Losin’ Streak, under the label Bent Tree Records. The second CD was the critically acclaimed, self titled, Cimmaron, on Alpine Records produced by Nashville’s Johnny Rutenschroer.  This CD produced several released singles that charted nationally not only on the Billboard and R and R charts, but Gavin, Cashbox, and The Mac Report as well. Their latest CD, 4U, is showcasing songs written by the band members. Cimmaron members are Guitarist, Lead Vocalist, and Harmonica Bobby Smith, Steel Guitarist and Vocalist Joey McCray, Bass Guitarist Brian Jones, Vocalist and Drummer (Kenner Drum Company Endorsee) Jerry Parris, Guitar, Banjo, Fiddle, Dobro, Mandolin and Vocalist Terry Hannabass, and Honorary Member, Josh Shilling, Keyboards and Vocals. Cimmaron’s inspiration comes from a quote from the original Outlaw, the late Waylon Jennings, “Everyone is entitled to do it their way just once”.

No one can deny the energy created during a live performance. It’s magical how an artist can connect with the audience and make that moment powerful and memorable. Widely recognized for his natural ability to entertain, early on he quickly became a first call sideman, and performed with groups such as Pieces of a Dream and Four 80 East. Marcus has also been invited to perform with or open for Peter White, Boney James, Mike Phillips, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, George Duke, Everette Harp, Wynton Marsalis, Alex Bugnon, Nnenna Freelon, Bob Baldwin, Matt Marshak, Ledisi, Jennifer Holiday, Lalah Hathaway and many others.
