It’s BACK TO SCHOOL time and if you are anything like I was in high school, scrambling for the perfect outfit on the first day is your top priority! And once you’ve got that figured out, then it’s on to the next few weeks of outfits – essentially, you are a shopping maniac right now! I loved school clothes shopping, I’m not so sure my Mom’s wallet loved it, but I know my closet did!
Right now there are a lot of different trends popping up, some genius, some not so much! I’ve scoured The Streets at Southpoint to find some really great, really affordable trends hitting the fashion world right now! Wouldn’t it be great to hit the halls this year not only making a statement, but saving some of those pretty pennies too (for more clothes, of course!).
Trend 1:
PRINTED DENIM
The newest craze to hit the denim trend!
Printed denim is popping up everywhere right now, so it isn’t hard to find. However, I’m finding some really great styles at JCPenney for a fraction of the cost.
Almost Famous Floral Print Jeans ONLY $25 at JCPenney

Trend 2:
Tied Dye and Bright Color Denim
Keep the summer alive with these bright colors and funky dyes! Match with a white t-shirt and nobody will be able to keep their eyes off your pants!
Arizona Skinny Jeans $20 at JCPenney

Trend 3:
Backpacks with Patterns and Prints
There’s no doubt you’ll need a bag to carry all your stuff, but this year, backpacks are taking on a whole new look – patterns, prints, and colors!
And with so many affordable options, there’s no need to sacrifice style!
Again, JCPenney is taking the new backpack trend to a swoon-worthy level.
Arizona Backpacks are not only stylish and totally trendy, but versatile and durable.
This one is only $25
and I’m loving the pink and white stripe pocket!

Olsenboye Tribal Pattern Backpack
Finding a cute and functional way to haul your books is a smart way to start the school year!
$30

The choices are literally endless when it comes to Olsenboye at JCPenney. From canvas to leather to floral and stripes…pick your pleasure!

Trend 4:
Geek Chic with Cozy Cardigans
You don’t have to take this trend to the max, you can opt for a cozy cardigan layered with a simple tee in place of a pair of spectacles and you’ll nail the style just fine.
The juniors section at Nordstrom has a vast array of ‘geek chic’ items you can buy piece by piece to incorporate into your wardrobe. A few simple pieces can go a really long way when it comes to this trend.
For instance, this multi-colored houndstooth ‘preppy’ cardigan with front pockets screams “GEEK CHIC!” Layer it with a peter pan collar shirt and voila, you’re done!
BP Shawl Collar Cardigan $48.00

But, if you are into the geek chic eyeglasses, you can find them at Claire’s! Along with some other really cool accessories.
A few pairs I’m really enjoying are:
(from left to right)
Geek Chic Frames $9.50
Lucky Day Fashion Frames $9.50
Half Shades, Half Frames $10.50

Trend 6:
The Collar Necklaces
The key to a great outfit this fall comes in the form of a collar, but not just any collar, The Necklace Collar! Add instant pizazz to any outfit with a collar necklace, perfect for those, “I don’t have anything to wear’ days – talk about instant charm!
I found a really cute pearl collar necklace at Claire’s...and it’s a really cute price too!
$10.00

Trend 5:
Purple Hues in Makeup
Purple will be everywhere this fall and you could almost call it the new black! And guess what, any purple will do! Any hue and variation is acceptable and considered on trend – so, pick your favorite and roll – and don’t forget your lips, they make no exception to the rule — while it may seem a brave option, you might want to try it out, you never know what you’ll find!
Sephora has enough purple hues to keep you seeing violet all season!
A few of my suggestions:
Makeup Forever Eye Shadow and Cream $23.00
Illamasqua Nail Varnish $14.00
Illamasqua Lipstick in Iridescent Violet $22.00
Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick $12.00
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Shadow Pencil in Dark Purple $20.00

What trends are you looking forward to this season? Is there anything you can’t wait to wear for school this year? What are you thinking for the first day? I’d love to know your thoughts!
